From the age of six I wanted to be an air steward because I loved travelling and being on planes. I ended up doing the job for about six years and loved every minute of it, but it’s also a very lonely job and I got horribly homesick. Working at New Look, I get the same ‘no two days the same’ buzz – but without the jet lag!
For me, it was the opportunity to further my career with a company that was really going places. I was working in retail and kept hearing about New Look’s growing profits and exciting expansion plans. At the same time, the brand itself was changing and it started to appeal a lot more. I knew it was where I had to be.
After two years as a Store Manager for our busy Bluewater store, I got promoted to run the flagship Marble Arch store. I’ve been doing it for nine months now and it’s a brilliant job!
I’m a very hands-on manager and I’m all about working on the sales floor with my team. My day starts at about 6.30am, managing deliveries, setting the store up and briefing my team. Then it’s all about problem solving, and motivating the team to deliver the best possible customer service. I encourage every one of my team to put the customer at the heart of their day. Making the customer feel happy and special is our number one priority.
Right now, I love being in the store environment and working with a big team, and relish the challenges that brings. In the future I might see myself working at a regional manager’s level and I’m already doing some training that will help me in the future. The thing about New Look is that if you work hard and you’re determined, the company will get you to where you want to go. I’ve had brilliant managers that have supported my ambitions 100% and they’ve always given me good advice and feedback. The Directors do the same. It’s a very encouraging and supportive culture.
Fun, fast-paced and constantly changing.
Go with the flow. People can be daunted by the pace on their first day, but if you get stuck in and have fun doing it, you’ll never look back!
