Either a professional sportsman, a teacher or something to do with business and money!
It’s a growing business with big aspirations, fun people with a ‘can do’ attitude and working away from the city.
I joined five years ago with responsibility for mainly the technical aspects of finance. Since then I’ve got involved in many of the more operational areas of the business, picked up responsibility for all aspects of Audit (plus Health & Safety) and worked on several cross functional steering groups, for example the People Matters Group. I am currently also involved with the potential development of the Weymouth site – so a very varied role and not just finance.
Paying all our suppliers and our staff’s expenses, accounting for our stock (wherever it is in the world), organising all the store stock counts, managing our insurance cover, managing our internal retail, DC and head office audit and Health & Safety requirements and working on various cross functional projects.
By taking on more responsibility as Weymouth adapts to having a major head office in London and remaining flexible as the group changes to adapt to the future.
Interesting and challenging – but always with a smile on my face! Working as part of the ‘back office’ you need to continually adapt to the ‘front end’ requirements of the business – be it buying a package of new stores, quickly setting up an e-commerce capability or moving into new international markets.
Ask lots of questions and use every opportunity to network with other teams. And enjoy yourself.
