Lisa - HR Manager

What did you want to be when you were younger?

I always wanted to be a dancer, so that’s what I did. I went to dance school and used to perform in shows and on cruise ships. It was exciting and I loved the variety – now I get that thrill from New Look instead!

What attracted you to work for New Look?

I had a couple of friends who worked as managers here. They were really committed to the brand and talked fondly about everyone they worked with. An opportunity came up and half way through the interview I knew I wanted to work for New Look – I could see the company was heading in a new direction with a better product and a higher profile. I’ve been here for two years now and still feel lucky to be part of it.

Describe your career path at New Look?

I joined as a HR business partner supporting the regional managers. Then, ten months ago, I got promoted to HR Manager. The role’s offered me some fantastic learning opportunities. And with the company growing at such a rate, you’re exposed to new and exiting challenges all the time.

What does your job involve?

My region is the South West and I support the recruitment of managers in stores and the Weymouth office. I’m also responsible for supporting the performance management process. Right now, I’m working on creating a new development programme – we’re always thinking up new ways to help our people reach their potential.

How do you aim to progress further within New Look?

For now I want to focus on becoming a really great HR Manager…then we’ll see what happens. Opportunities open up every day at New Look; I want to build on my skills as much as possible until I’m ready to make the next jump.

What is it like working for New Look?

You can totally be your own person here. You have the support and success of a big company, but it feels much more close-knit with lots of teams all working together. Everyone’s passionate about what they do and the brand. We work hard, but have a good laugh doing it.

What advice would you give new starters?

Don’t be afraid of using the experience and expertise of the people around you and take one step at a time. There’s so much happening here – just enjoy it!
